BDML – the missing piece in the Tenants Contents Insurance jigsaw (01/01/06/)

BDML Connect Limited, a leading general insurance intermediary specialising in personal lines solutions, and part of the Capita Group, has today announced the launch of a new business subsidiary, BDML Insurance Solutions (BDMLIS). The business will specialise in providing insurance products for Local Authority and Housing Association tenants. BDMLIS comments “Having both worked in this market for more than ten years, we believe that tenants have not benefited from any real competition amongst insurance providers operating in this sector. The contents product offered to tenants has therefore remained relatively unchanged since they took off in the early 1990s. The recent regulation of the general insurance industry by the FSA has made it even more challenging for non-insurance organisations to provide insurance products and BDMLIS aim to be pro active with advice and assistance.”

BDMLIS continues “Statistics in the 2000 Joseph Rowntree Foundation Report  showed that over 57% of local authority and housing association tenants are living in poverty.  Families defined in the report as being poor were ‘lacking at least 2 of the 35 constituent necessities’ with one of these necessities being identified as home contents insurance. This clearly demonstrates that our audience has budgetary constraints so BDMLIS will be offering much lower premiums and enhanced cover.  We will also provide much better marketing support to help social housing providers increase interest and loyalty from their tenants”.
